Swedish quality based on research and development In 1975, CEFAR Medical began developing products using the existing technology and medical research on electrotherapy. For many years, electrotherapy was considered an alternative method, but today – three decades later – TENS, NMES (muscle stimulation) and electroacupuncture are accepted by doctors, nurses and physiotherapists. And why not? Electrotherapy has proven to be an effective, symptom-free treatment method that reduces the costs to society for medical care.
The hub of our activities is our main office in Malmö. Here, in the stimulating environment of the Ideon science park, we have forged ties with research teams at many prestigious hospitals, built up a worldwide distributor network, and advanced our own product development. Today, Cefar is one of Europe’s leading companies in electrotherapy.
Having our own product development is a necessity for meeting our customers’ needs. Many of the product ideas and improvements that have been made on our stimulators have come about through contact with users, as well as with doctors and physiotherapists in Sweden and internationally. Out product portfolio today meets most needs. We have everything from portable TENS stimulators, which patients can easily use in their homes, to advanced clinic stimulators that allow caregivers to adapt treatments to the latest research. Regardless of who is to use the products, it is important to us that they are as user-friendly as possible, so that valuable time can be spent on treatments and patient contact rather than learning the equipment.
Our TENS, muscle stimulation and electroacupuncture stimulators are top-notch. They meet the stringent safety requirements for this type of products and their programs are based on research and proven experience as to the best stimulation types, frequencies, pulse durations and so on for the given indications. Naturally, high quality means that our products are not the cheapest. But high quality also helps healthcare providers save money. TENS stimulators must last for many years while being circulated among many patients. Some institutions are still using stimulators that Cefar delivered 20 years ago. We put a lot of time into improving our communication with caregivers and patients alike. To ensure that users feel they’re getting the most out of our stimulators, we publish extensive literature about the treatment methods and how various conditions can be treated with TENS, muscle stimulation or electroacupuncture. Examples include manuals, clinical guides, patient information folders about treatments, and information sheets to caregivers with practical tips for treating various indications. Our website contains an extensive free reference library, where our customers can search for the latest studies.
